When it comes to a wedding, there are tons of details to consider and details mean spending money. While we all know that not all details are created equally, there are a few that you can completely ditch if you’re looking for ways to save money on your wedding day. This will certainly depend on each couple and their priorities but below are five details you can ditch from your wedding roster.
Paper Save The Dates
Digital has become king and that goes for save the dates. Save some money (and trees) by sending a digital save the date to your guests. While a formal paper invitation is more common and maybe even necessary for your guests, a paper save the date is not.
Paper Ceremony Programs
Unless you have cultural or religious traditions that are unfamiliar to guests or your ceremony program serves another purpose (as a paper fan for an outdoor summer wedding, for example), paper programs are not necessary.
Guest Favors
Unless it’s food (and even then, it can go to waste), wedding favors—no matter how cute you think they are—are usually left behind by guests and extras are either given back to the couple or thrown out. For whatever reason, a lot of favors are forgotten and that is a waste of money.
Traditional Guest Book
A traditional guest book where guests sign their names and write a short message is rarely filled out nowadays. The barely filled out guest book usually ends up in a box in storage, which is a waste of money. Eliminate it all together, or swap it was an idea that will have guests participating in the guest book and you keeping it as a memento. A large, printed photo of the couple with guests signing the canvas or a scrapbook for photos if you have a photo booth on the day of are more creative and interactive options that will result in a full guest book.
Ornate Cake
There is nothing wrong with having a showstopper wedding cake to wow your guests when they enter the wedding reception. However, an extravagant cake will come with an extravagant price. Some couples eliminate the cake all together and have another dessert to reflect their style and taste (a cookie table, a donut display, etc.), while others have a small cake on display for cake cutting purposes if they want to do that tradition and a sheet cake in the back for their caterer to serve to guests. A sheet cake is a great economical option and still equally delicious alternative to a large, expensive ornate cake.
