Is a wedding videographer a necessity?

Many couples debate whether to hire a wedding videographer to capture their day. It may seem like overkill to hire a photographer and videographer, but the truth is both artists capture special moments of the wedding day in very different and unique ways.

The short answer to the question in my opinion is yes, hire a videographer for your wedding. Why? As a professional wedding planner doing this full-time and going on four years in business, I personally don’t know any couples who regret hiring a wedding videographer, but I do know couples who regret not hiring one.

Based on my personal experience as a previous bride, I can honestly say I did not want a videographer for my wedding but ended up hiring one. My husband and mom really wanted a wedding videographer, but I didn’t because I was burnt out from wedding planning. Plus, it was adding on to the never-ending wedding expenses. Two months before our wedding day, I caved in and hired a video company, and I AM SO GLAD I DID. Looking back, investing in a wedding videographer was probably the best money spent and I would absolutely do it again.

Video captures movements, sounds and moments you, as the wedding couple, can’t always be a part of on the wedding day because there’s so much going on. And truthfully, I have watched my wedding highlight video more times than I have opened my wedding album. Watching our loved ones get down on the dance floor, hearing the heartfelt words of my dad’s speech and seeing the look in my husband’s eyes as we recited our vows to one another are moments I am grateful I can watch over and over again.

As a previous bride and current planner, please listen to me when I say bite the bullet and hire a wedding videographer! You won’t regret hiring a videographer, but you certainly will regret not hiring one after the fact, so don’t put yourself in that position. Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime event and having your special day on film is truly priceless. While some memories are bound to fade over the years, you’ll get to relive and re-watch the happy moments of your wedding day through video, which is the ultimate advantage of hiring a wedding videographer.
