I had the privilege of organizing a South Asian styled shoot on a hot summer day in June at the Q Center, a well-known conference center in St. Charles that’s also a hidden gem wedding venue. We hosted the shoot at their gorgeous outdoor pavilion a rustic open-air space that seats up to 200 under the shelter with plenty of room for dining and dancing under the stars.
Teal, eggplant, Kelly green, gold and royal blue—the hues of a peacock feather—came together to create a bright and bold color palette. The peacock itself was found in the details, such as the invitation and cake. The throne chairs and mandap (a covered structure where the main wedding ceremony takes place) was simple and traditional in the colors of gold and white. The reception decor, on the other hand, included an array of colors with bursts of gold in the chargers, silverware, glassware, napkin rings, table number and Chiavari chairs. The horse for the baraat (the groom’s wedding procession before the ceremony) included gold and pops of color as well.

With an emphasis on bright colors, this shoot evoked a lively, rustic and romantic feel that stepped out of the classic wedding décor for South Asian weddings. Contemporary over common!
