How To Give Back Through Your Wedding

A wedding day is one of the most special days in two people’s lives, but there are a lot of costs associated with the big day and potentially a lot of waste—excess food thrown away, leftover flowers tossed in the garbage and more. This doesn’t mean you need to skip the festivities or gorgeous details to have a meaningful wedding, but many couples are choosing to give back, or consider small changes to their wedding ideas, to make a bigger impact. Many couples are giving back in some way to their communities or organizations or having eco-friendly products through their wedding details. The best part? The planning isn’t harder. Here are four ways to give back through your wedding.

Wedding Material Donations

Have a discussion with your vendors to see if anything can be done with leftover materials. For example, maybe your caterer can donate leftover food or supplies to a local food shelter, or your florist can donate the floral centerpiece arrangements to a local hospital, nursing home or another event taking place within the next day or two.

Eco-friendly Invites

Many vendors are more environmentally conscious than ever before, so it’s easier to print your invites on recycled paper, biodegradable materials or alternative resources to give back to the environment.

Thoughtful Wedding Favors

Wedding favors trend on and off over the years, so if you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back, donate to your favorite charity or organization in lieu of a wedding favor. Forego spending money on wine stoppers or candy and instead make a donation in honor of your guests.

Charity Registries

If you and your partner have everything you need for your home already, consider a charity registry. You can choose causes that are important to you and have you guests donate to them in lieu of wedding gifts.
